How to Decorate Your Home with High Ceilings
| 09/23/2016While a lot of people would see a high ceiling as a disadvantage when it comes to redecorating, it can actually be your asset if you know how to use it to your advantage. A well-decorated room of high ceilings can inspire creativity and a sense of freedom. When you know how to handle all that free space above your living room, you can even enjoy that cozy feeling that low ceilings provide. So, to redecorate your home with high ceilings, always remember to put its space and height to good use while addressing its interior decorating challenges.
So, how do you deal with all that extra height?
If you feel that your room has just too much height it feels so sacred, you can redecorate it so that it doesn’t feel so overwhelming.
First, you’ll have to make the ceiling and the rest of the room look and feel proportional. You can do this by putting taller furniture in the room, such as a bookshelf that extends all the way up. Aside from giving you extra storage and display space, tall shelving can make your ceilings look less towering. Other room decoration which can help you proportionate the room are tall artworks to hang over the fireplace or the sofa to somehow anchor the ceiling to the bottom part of the room. An ambient lighting can also play a big part in enhancing the room’s proportions by making the room itself look bigger and taller to match the ceilings.
What if you just want to feel cozy?
The tall, empty space above you might feel too overpowering it might be extra challenging to feel at home in your own home. So, to make your room cozy and intimate, you can pick some very strategic light fixtures to fill up the space. With a ceiling that high, you can definitely go for a grand chandelier to redirect the room’s emphasis towards the lower part of the ceiling.
You can also help move the room’s focal point towards the lower part of the ceiling by physically blocking the eyes from wandering up high. You can do this by fixing some pretty wooden beams in that extra ceiling space in a creative manner. Hanging some beautiful pendants on them would also make the whole setup a dazzling view to decorate your ceiling with.
So, how do you make much of your high ceilings?
When you decorate your high ceilings, don’t do it just to address that gaping space above your head. Decorate it because it is something to take advantage of. Your high ceilings allow you to provide different levels of focal points in a room. You can layer your decorations so that people’s eyes can have fun cascading their stares from one beautiful decoration to another. You can explore a room’s topography to find where you could place your decorative beams, pendants, lighting, room furniture and decors. Don’t put everything in a single eyeline because have one whole room and a spacious ceiling to use. Think of your room as having multiple horizons. You can draw these lines by letting your room decors and furniture interact with each other in a proportional yet very creative way.
